The Yamaha Blaster 200 is bowing out after 20 years of loyal service. This machine appealed to many customers thanks to its lively and sporty dynamics, a simple yet proven drivetrain as well as a very competitive price.


Times have changed; consumers now look for vehicles that are more modern, less polluting and especially more fuel-efficient. With that in mind, Japanese ATV manufacturer Yamaha created the all-new Raptor 250, a smaller twin to the fearsome Raptor 700. Its aggressive styling will turn a lot of heads and even make some people drool. No matter what angle you admire it from, the Raptor 250 is a well-executed sport ATV. The slightly smaller dimensions give it an athletic look that's even more striking than that of its big brothers.

The targeted customers are very demanding; Yamaha's engineers and designers are fully aware of it. That's why they've put so much effort into the development of the new Raptor 250.

Interesting powerplant
The engine probably represents the most significant improvement on this new ATV. The Raptor 250 is powered by a liquid-cooled, 249cc four-stroke single-cylinder mill that's fed by a 29-mm Mikuni BSR carburetor designed to maximize low- and mid-range power. Mated to a five-speed manual transmission, the engine delivers a steady and long-lasting performance. Its aluminum cylinder is coated with an antifriction ceramic composite which allows heat to dissipate more easily. Furthermore, the wet-sump lubrication system is equipped with an independent oil cooler.


The Raptor 250 uses a very efficient air filter, similar to that of Yamaha off-road bikes. It's easy to wash and requires no tool. The vehicle benefits from a compact steel frame that was designed for increased strength and reduced weight. Thanks to this well thought-out chassis, not to mention the aluminum wheels, the new Raptor only weighs 142 kilos -- 5 less than the Blaster model it replaces. That's quite impressive for a 4-stroke ATV.
