The secret? A new steeringA new steering system was developed by engineer Franck Schweickhardt and his team. It's been improved to feature a variable rack ratio, which adjusts in line with the steering angle, increasing sharply as soon as it reaches five degrees. All of which means that, compared to a steering system with a constant ratio, the driver does not have to turn the steering wheel as much when cornering. When dealing with anything beyond 90-degree corners, the car amazes with its ability to grab a hold of the road despite its commanding size. You'll go from lock to lock only when parking the SL or making a U-turn. | The new steering system with variable rack ratio. | Prestige or pleasureBoth apply to the new 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL550 and SL600. While pricing has yet to be announced, expect it to be under the 2008 models' ($135,000 and $181,000, respectively). These cars will easily rival every other premium grand tourer on the market. They bring lots of comfort and prestige to the table but also true driving pleasure. Power Cockpit comfort and ergonomics handling Fuel consumption Heavy weight of the SL600 High price of the SL600
