2004 Hyundai Elantra GT Road Test

10-9-2003

by Alexandra Straub , Canadian Auto Press

Speaking of vision, the interior looks very classy. The new vertical vents, trip computer, and overall layout of the cabin exude an upscale presence and all controls are conveniently accessible. The GT's standard AM/FM/CD player with 2 tweeters makes for respectable sound quality too.

I should also mention the GT's handy liftback makes loading and unloading cargo a snap, while the split rear seatbacks allow a rear passenger plus a long load to sit side by side.

Let's talk rubber. All Elantra models come shod in standard P195/60R15 all season tires. Instead of wheel covers, the GT features standard alloy rims. This leads me to the brakes. The GT sports 4-wheel discs, making sticky-situation stopping a breeze. The top-line Elantra also offers a premium package that includes ABS with traction control for increased safety and braking power. Leather heated seats and a power sunroof are also included in the package.

Even with the premium package, the well equipped and stylish Elantra GT comes with a price tag of only $21,195. (Photo: Trevor Hofmann, Canadian Auto Press)
With all the upgrades, shouldn't the 2004 Elantra's price skyrocket? Not in this case. Again like Hyundai's motto states, "more car for less money," the base GT starts at a modest $18,995, and with the $2,200 premium package is only $21,195. That's a lot of car for such a small sum.

With its European inspired fine lines the Elantra GT is not only elegant but affordable. Add to that its full load of standard features and most recent upgrades and the little Hyundai is difficult to beat.
