Making a break for it

The 2.4L is a great team player. It features plenty of docile torque but best of all, it has big horsepower, 205 hp for 2006. The only issue here is that you have to wait for it. When 6000 rpm rolls around, the VTEC system does what it knows best; it screams to the redline all the while yanking hard on the TSX. Of the two transmissions (5-speed auto and 6-speed manual), the standard gearbox is the better choice to tango with the engine. Properly synchronizing the movements of the shifter and the clutch pedal is difficult at first. I recall having the same experience in a 2003 Accord V6 coupe however; this becomes a non-issue after the first twenty minutes of city driving.

Many car builders strive to offer products that can "do" everything very well; brake, accelerate and handle. What often occurs is that the vehicle is average at everything or really good at one item at the expense of the others. The TSX is one of the few truly gifted driving cars in its price range. Not only does it feel stable, surefooted and comfortable, it matches the riding performance with excellent braking and steering.

In the end
It is difficult to fault the TSX. It may be a little anonymous when it comes to styling but a $4,800 will get you the A-Spec package, which infuses the otherwise mild-mannered sedan into a sportier, and more upscale looking 4-door sports car. As is, the Acura is a very reliable and easy car to live with.

A redesign of the TSX is probably a few years off. What is expected shortly, by 2008 as the rumours go, is a 2-door version that will compensate for the elimination of the RSX after four short years. In typical fashion, the TSX Coupe will probably sport a more aggressive fascia, body lines and wheels.
