2007 BMW X3 3.0si Road Test

4-2-2007

by Michel Deslauriers , Auto123.com

Conclusion
With a base price of $50,900, there's roughly a $5,000 gap between the 3.0si and the base 3.0i. Is that extra dough worth the 45 additional horsepower? I'd say that's up to you to decide, as it depends on your driving habits. The articulated seats are only available in the 3.0si version, and this test truck included the aforementioned packages as well as the Premium package ($4,800) and metallic paint ($800), for a grand total of $62,100. At that price, you can get yourself a base Porsche Cayenne...

At $50,900, the X3 is not cheap and it can get much pricier with options.

You can consider the X3's great rivals to be the Acura RDX, Infiniti FX35, Land Rover LR2 and Lexus RX 350. Obviously, you could also check out the 328xi Touring, since you'd already be in a BMW showroom.

The X3 3.0si is an interesting choice for those who seek a mix of sporty driving and all-season practicality. It's expensive, but it's got good looks and provides a driving experience that you didn't think would be possible in such a vehicle. If the performance capabilities of a SUV are more important to you than its utilitarian capabilities, the X3 deserves your attention.
