2007 Lexus LS 460L Road Test

3-1-2007

by Marc Bouchard , Auto123.com

On the road
The Lexus LS has become a serious threat to similar German cars in terms of driving dynamics. Its powerful, 380-hp V8 engine, which only burns 8.4 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres (on the highway), easily propels the car from 0 to 100 kph in less than 7 seconds, despite a GVWR of 2,465 kg (5,434 lbs).

The LS is a serious threat to its German archrivals.

Adjustable at the touch of a button, the suspension can be set in Comfort mode for long trips or in Sport mode for shorter, more spirited drives. Steering is precise but not much responsive (meaning the driver almost never feels details in the road), while the brakes are powerful once you know how to use them properly. The driver has to remember that such a heavyweight, when launched at full speed, will need considerably longer braking distances.

Sworn enemy of the BMW 7-Series and Audi A8, the Lexus LS 460 may not yet offer the same sporty driving as its rivals, but it largely makes up for it with unparalleled luxury, highly advanced technology and outstanding efficiency. As a result, the Lexus LS 460 is undoubtedly one of the finest full-size sedans in the world.
