2007 Lincoln MKZ AWD Road Test

5-7-2007

by Rob Rothwell , Auto123.com

The value equation
The luxuriousness of the MKZ combined with the availability of AWD imbues it with plenty of value in the mid-size, luxury car segment. My heavily contented AWD tester rang through Ford's till at $43,914. The base price for the MKZ AWD is $39,899. Still, things could be better. For example, a stability program is not available. This is a notable deficiency when compared to some of the competition. To Ford's credit though, the MKZ is loaded with standard equipment airbags, including overhead inflatables.

Although a stability program is not available, the MKZ is still a good value.

Prospective luxury car buyers looking for value, performance and most of all comfort at the lower end of the scale shouldn't overlook the MKZ AWD; it's got traction. Unfortunately, it's got thirst too. The car's on-board computer revealed an average fuel efficiency of 16.7 litres per 100 kilometres of city driving. Granted, my driving style may have contributed to this unimpressive showing.

High value AWD, mid-size luxury car
Best Ford V6 ever
Supple ride characteristic, quiet operation
Lots of airbags

Unimpressive fuel consumption (fortunately regular octane)

No stability control program available
