2007 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT Wagon Road Test

3-15-2007

by Michel Deslauriers , Auto123.com

Competition
There are a few, but they almost all come from upscale luxury brands. The Subaru Legacy 2.5GT wagon with the 5-speed automatic costs $43,295. In comparison, the Audi A4 Avant 3.2 Quattro starts at $50,925. The BMW 328xi with automatic costs $46,700. The Volkswagen Passat 3.6 4MOTION is priced from $47,015, and the Volvo V70 2.5T AWD costs $47,495. As you can see, there's no Accord or Camry to be found here, as their wagon models have long been replaced by SUVs.

Price range for a Legacy wagon starts at $27,995 (2.5i wagon).

Subaru may not be as prestigious as the other makes listed above, but you'll pay less for your powerhouse all-weather wagon. You may also want to know that a bigger and V8-powered Dodge Magnum R/T with AWD costs $41,640. If you can't swing the 2.5GT's price, though, a nicely-equipped, non-turbo 2.5i Touring wagon can be yours for $30,195.

Conclusion
The Legacy 2.5GT is rewarding to drive, can carry lots of stuff, is pretty fast and looks good. There's not much to complain about in this car. In the last year, we've received tons of emails asking what we think about the Legacy, and people regularly talk about it in our discussion forums. It seems as though this latest version of Subaru's mid-size sedan and wagon is getting the attention of the general public, and I can't blame them.

Powerful turbo Boxer
Nicely-appointed interior
Competent all-wheel drive system

Fuel consumption can get high
The 2.5GT model isn't cheap
A little tight inside

No audio controls on steering wheel
