2008 Hyundai Sonata Limited Review

4-13-2008

by Michel Deslauriers , Auto123.com

Competent engine
Although the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder will suit most people, the 3.3-liter V6 is a nice addition to the Sonata for drivers who want a little more punch. Its 234 horsepower are more than ready to send the Sonata to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds.

The 5-speed automatic transmission works smoothly, but it's easy to realize that its mission is to minimize fuel consumption: it changes gears at low RPMs, which prevents the engine from hitting its sweet spot. In addition, the tranny sometimes has trouble finding the right gear. At least we can use the manual shift gate to accelerate its operation.

The 3.3-liter V6 is a nice addition to the Sonata.

My fuel economy average is 12.1 L/100 km, which isn't bad.

Under normal driving conditions, and even when we're in a hurry, the car is smooth and quiet. Its ride is pleasant with its supple suspension, similar to what you'll find in a Toyota Camry. A little body roll is noticed, but we're far from the marshmallow suspension setups that plagued Hyundais just five years ago.

Competition
The Sonata Limited costs $29,995, is the most equipped and the most expensive of the line-up. It's the only version that offers traction and stability-control systems.

Here's what we'll find with other manufacturers, with a similar equipment level:
