2008 Infiniti EX35 First Impressions

10-24-2007

by Kevin ''Crash'' Corrigan , Auto123.com

Still can't picture it? Ok, then let's try this...think of some the more popular German built SUV's on the market today, vehicles like BMW's X3/X5, the ML from Mercedes-Benz , and almost for certain, the Porsche Cayenne. Then, mix in a good old dose of high-end luxury sports sedans from companies such as Audi, Jaguar, and maybe even a little BMW, just for good measure.

Once you've done all of that, place the whole lot in a Japanese quality blender and hit the power switch!

Still not got it? Ok, let's try another way. Try to picture the designers of all the above vehicles getting together in one place to co-design just one single product.

Classical lines that will age beautifully.

Naturally, there would be arguments galore and everyone would want to put his own imprint on the vehicle, but at the end of the day you would have the almost perfect blend of performance, capabilities and luxury. Actually, what you'd have is the new Infiniti EX35!!!

You see, most of today's crossover manufacturers woo their customers with promises of sports car handling and performance. Yet, they still feel it necessary to boast of outstanding off-road adventure capabilities. I guess that they feel that the crossover buyers basically want it all!!

What Infiniti have done with the new EX35 is say "phooey" to that whole idea, and instead, produced the EX35 which is purely designed to be an on-road machine.

They lay no claim at all to off-road prowess. In fact, they couldn't care less about mud-bogging capabilities, because they are smart enough to know that most people do not actually require that from their vehicles.

No, what you get with this new offering is a stylish-looking crossover which leans more towards the sports sedan look than most of the others.

Power comes from a 3.5L (297hp) V6, which then runs through a five speed automatic box, and is a similar setup to that housed in their G35 sedan.

The 3.5L V6 has been around for a while in the Infiniti catalogue.
