I'm telling you, over the next few years, vehicles will become increasingly harder to categorize. Manufacturers strive to create, and consumers seek to experience, the perfect blend of automotive attributes in a unique package that makes no compromises whatsoever. The all-new 2008 Infiniti EX35 is a pretty good illustration of what lies ahead.

The shapely Infiniti EX35 is a true head-turner.

Is it a wagon? An SUV? A crossover? Well, sure, it must fall into the latter category, which is essentially a cross between the first two. Whatever you want to call it, the question is: is it any good?

You bet.

Sexy lines
The shapely EX35 is a true head-turner. I can't tell you how much it's been stared at while in my possession. The front end is unmistakably Infinity with swept headlights almost overlooking the wheel arches, a sculpted hood and a chrome-clad, oval-shaped grille. The side profile is very reminiscent of the larger FX, although slightly less muscular.

From the back, the EX does not look as unique. Some design themes are clearly shared with the Nissan Rogue and Murano. Nevertheless, it's all really well executed.

Upon entering the vehicle, occupants will find a tailor-made interior with outstanding fit and finish. The brown leather in my tester was simply magnificent and the dashboard looked stunning with sleek lines flowing into the door panels. I've heard nothing but positive comments on the elegant analog clock atop the center stack. It's becoming a trend among luxury vehicles... and the credit goes to Infiniti.

The soul of a G35x
This EX35 is obviously powered by the same engine as the G35 sedan, albeit with 9 horsepower less. The brilliant 3.5L V6 is still prodigiously potent with 297 horsepower on tap and the roar of a lion at higher revs. While most competitors offer 6- and 7-speed automatic transmissions, this Infiniti makes do with only 5 gears. Oh well; the autobox tries its best to manage the raging stallions underneath the hood -- and proves quite competent doing so.
