2008 Infiniti G37 Review

5-23-2008

by Marc Bouchard , Auto123.com

As a luxury car, the G37 comes with a sound system that is worthy of a concert hall, even if it has only six speakers. The audio controls are user-friendly and easy to reach.

The front seats are comfortable, very cosy and offer full support for sporty driving. That being said, the driving position is not easily adjustable. The only sound you'll hear from within the passenger cabin is the soft purr of the engine, which you wouldn't want to change for anything.

The G37's engine has a displacement of 3.7 litres and generates a respectable 330-horsepower.

The only major fault with the G37 is its lack of space. Getting in is easy enough in the front, but headroom is very limited, and accessing the rear seats is anything but easy.

With respect to the shoebox of a trunk, space is clearly not its strongest feature. It is so small that instructions are provided on how to make two golf bags fit! Cargo space is therefore not abundant, and the G37 might not be the most suitable vehicle for long road trips.

Pumped up on steroids
The G37's engine is a reconfiguration of what is considered to be one of the world's best engines. Based on Nissan's 3.5-litre V6 engine, the G37's engine has a displacement of 3.7 litres and generates a respectable 330-horsepower. It is a highly responsive engine that offers top performance. The gearbox has surgical precision; the six gears are well spaced, and shifting is very smooth.

Although the suspension has an exemplary firmness and the steering is incredibly precise, both manage to preserve all of the thrills of the road. Considering all of the above, the G37's handling is one of its strengths; the car remains balanced and strong and is literally glued to the pavement without any pitching motion. Its driveability is also a class above; the G37 is controlled from the tip of your fingers and demonstrates great agility.

In fact, buying a G37 is like getting a Versace suit for one sixth of the price.
