Off-road technologyChrysler has included an Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with Electronic Roll Mitigation as standard equipment- definitely an asset when traversing steep slopes. And when climbing such slopes, Chrysler's Hill Start Assist will hold the vehicle stationary long enough to remove a foot from the brake and gently engage the throttle- again supplied as standard fare.
Hill Decent Control (HDC) is standard equipment on the upscale
Liberty Limited. This feature ensures a well controlled, slow decent on rough terrain without the driver applying the brakes. Antilock braking is standard on all Libertys, as is electronic traction control. Selecting the Liberty's Tow Package brings with it a Trailer Sway Control System that utilizes independent front-wheel braking to reduce trailer sway and improve handling; simply a "must" for those hauling heavy trailers on perilous roads.
Comfort and convenience not overlookedIn an effort to provide Liberty owners with the open-air feeling of the Jeep Wrangler, the Liberty can be equipped with an optional industry-exclusive, Sky Slider retractable canvass roof. This feature opens up above both rows of seating, allowing hair to fly out and sun to shine in. Sky Slider can be ordered on all Liberty models.
The base Liberty is the nicely equipped Sport. A Canada-exclusive "North Edition" sits between the Sport and the top line, Limited. Luxuries such as heated leather seating, remote start, premium audio and rain-sensing wipers are just a sampling of what the Limited beholds.
The driveThere's something reassuring about driving a Jeep product. I think it's the knowledge that come rain, snow or sun, nothing is going to hold you back. That sort of "comfort" isn't always accompanied by comfort- as in ride comfort. However, the liberty has successfully amalgamated the two. The redesigned suspension absorbs road roughness such that its four-wheel-drive underpinnings are cloaked in car-like compliance. I did note some "bounce" though when encountering dips and pitches at highway speeds.
