2008 Volkswagen Eos 2.0T Review

4-15-2008

The EOS is powered by a 2.0L 4 cylinder Turbo which produces around 200hp. This is more than enough to propel this cutesy vehicle into the quite lively, if not sporty category.

My tester came with VW's 6 speed DSG transmission which performs very well indeed. You also get the benefit of console and paddle shift on the steering wheel control over gear changes. I like that as not everyone is comfortable with paddle shifting yet and this does allow you the choice. It also makes for an entertaining drive as you can switch from one to the other.

The suspension on the EOS I found to be a little on the tame side. It could certainly not be described as sports car-like. Mind you, having said that, I should mention that I had just come out of the company's incredible Audi RS4, and that machine handles like a super-car, so maybe it was just me needing to readjust once more to cars suited to mere mortals.

Speaking of which, I guess it's time for me to sum up my opinion on the lovely goddess from VW.

Well, as you now know, there are a few little things that niggle me on the EOS. However, on the whole, I like the vehicle. It reminds me in many ways of the VW Golf convertible, but with a little more flair perhaps. I think that owners will like the overall feel of the vehicle, and top up, or top down, it does cut quite the dash on the road.

So would I buy one? Err...no, for the money, I'd probably try and purchase a well cared for used A4 Cabriolet from its sister company Audi because in my mind "that's a god, not a goddess"!
