2009 Infiniti FX: A little bit of déjà vu

4-16-2008

Also, the new double-wishbone front suspension and multilink rear suspension were made lighter than ever before.

Two trim levels
The lineup starts with the FX35, which shares its 3.5L V6 with the G35 sedan and EX35 compact crossover. For 2009, the entry-level FX generates 303 horsepower (+25) and 262 lb-ft of torque.

In either trim, power is sent to the driving wheels through a new 7-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift capability. Solid magnesium paddle shifters on the steering wheel allow you to shift gears like a true F1 driver on every winding road you may encounter.

In addition, all FX models sold in Canada will feature all-wheel drive. According to Mr. Murphy, 90 percent of Canadian customers asked for it, so there was no need to keep offering a RWD model like in the U.S.

Navigation and Technology packages are once again available with both FXs. Moreover, a new Sport variant exclusive to the FX50 will join the lineup.

A fresh bodywork
The 2009 Infiniti FX is the second vehicle to use the brand's innovative Scratch Shield "self-healing" paint. Introduced on the 2008 EX35, this specially-formulated clearcoat makes light scratch marks disappear when exposed to sunrays (in warm weather). How nice!

Furthermore, this big crossover features the Around View Monitor, also introduced on the smaller EX. Four cameras (one in the front grille, a second above the rear licence plate and the two others in the lower part of each sideview mirror) are linked to an onboard computer to offer drivers a real-time, bird's eye view of the vehicle's surroundings.

The Japanese automaker also included such options as Lane Departure Warning and Prevention, Brake Assist with Distance Control as well as Intelligent Cruise Control to maintain a safe distance between you and the vehicle ahead.
