The 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer is now available, and it's set to stir things up even more with its competition. The little shark-nosed sedan comes with a selection of new colors and upgraded powerplant options over the previous year's model, while maintaining leading edge safety and peace of mind for owners.

2009 Lancer evolution

Trim levels have been revised, and the Lancer can now be ordered as the base-model DE at $16,598, the well-equipped SE from $19,998, and the new GT model from $21,998. The GTS model starts at $22,998, and will now come with the automaker's 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine as opposed to the same 2.0-liter mill found in the rest of the lineup. Horsepower jumps from 152 to 168 as a result.

Lancer boasts 7 standard airbags and a global, performance-engineered platform that also houses the Outlander SUV and 291-horsepower Lancer Evolution models. A Lancer Ralliart model is expected this year as well, with a turbocharged 235-horsepower engine and all-wheel drive.
