2009 Toyota Matrix XRS Review

4-17-2008

by Michel Deslauriers , Auto123.com

Conclusion
The 2009 Matrix is all-new, but remains familiar. It's more refined, quieter and just as practical. Its fit and finish is better than in the HHR and Caliber, it's more fun to drive than the SX4, but not quite as much as the Mazda5 and Astra.

Is the XRS trim worth it? Yes and no. We can choose the XR with the B package, which adds some interesting features and that costs $21,190; we'll have to sacrifice some things, like the Bluetooth connectivity, for example. We can live without 18-inch wheels and a sunroof.

We'll never mistake it for a sports car, but satisfied owners of an old Matrix XRS will find that the new model will suit them well. The engine swap is welcome, and despite the high price, the XRS version will please many people.
