Yamaha introduced a trio of premium snowmobiles for 2011 – the
Apex,
Apex SE and
Apex X-TX. All three feature the industry's first electronic power steering (EPS) and a new three-piece windshield for extra protection. The SE boasts an all-new air suspension while the cross-country X-TX (deep snow and trail) rides on a Dual Shock CK rear suspension with tipped up rails.

A more powerful 4-cylinder
Using their motorcycle expertise, Yamaha engineers rely on very different technologies than competitors. The EXUP system found on the 4-stroke Genesis engine of the new Apex is a good example. This Yamaha-exclusive innovation utilizes a titanium body and butterfly valves that prevent the "blow back" phenomenon caused by valve overlap. This design reduces weight and eliminates flat spots in the power band while reducing emissions at the same time.
The Genesis also gets redesigned intake funnels, a larger air box, revised cam timing and new 38-mm titanium exhaust pipes that form a 4-into-1 unit – all with the goal of boosting power. The new exhaust design uses a shorter diffuser and moves the muffler further forward contributing to better mass centralization and improved handling.
Upgraded chassis
The new all-aluminum CF die-cast frame known as Deltabox 3 offers greater torsional rigidity than the old D2, which helps support front suspension components for superior control over rough terrain. In addition, the new lighter rear frame was designed to accommodate the shortened muffler and further enhance mass centralization.
The grooved rails of the new Deltabox 3 architecture optimize overall rigidity while the larger, taller upper frame section houses the new EPS system.
