MotoGP: Stoner wins - Pedrosa injured

5-16-2011

by moto123.com

After his complete domination all thru the weekend in preparation for the MotoGP French Grand Prix, Honda's Casey Stoner took his second win of the current 2011 season.

While it might have been a glorious outing for the Australian, his team-mate Dani Pedrosa suffered a clavicle bone fracture that ended his day's work after tangling with Gresini Honda's Marco Simoncelli.

For the first time since coming aboard the Ducati Team, Valentino Rossi took his first podium closely finishing behind another Honda Repsol rider Andrea Dovizioso.

Pole sitter Stoner lost some ground at the start and quickly ended up third, but got back to speed quickly to reclaim the top spot in front of both his Honda team-mates Pedrosa and Dovizioso.

By lap 17 Simoncelli, while trying to swept around the outside of Pedrosa to reclaim second, made contact sending Pedrosa into a crash and causing Simoncelli to skitter over the gravel.

Race direction chose to give Simoncelli a ride-through penalty for the tangle.

The battle for second was on between Lorenzo, Dovizioso and Valentino Rossi (Ducati) but the Spaniard ran wide and briefly left the track with three laps to go, leaving Dovizioso and Rossi to fight it out.

But it was too little too late as Dovizioso edged back ahead and then resist the Ducati to complete a Honda one-two.
