F1: Heikki Kovalainen set the best time in final day of Jerez test

7-25-2008

by René Fagnan , Auto123.com

Finnish Formula 1 driver Heikki Kovalainen set today the fastest lap around the Jerez circuit in the fourth and final day of this extensive F1 test session.

Kovalainen, driving a McLaren, was continuing the evaluation of nose horn wings similar to those used by Honda. These winglets will probably be used in Hungary, a slow and twisty circuit that requires high levels of downforce.

Frenchman Sébastien Bourdais kept up the strong pace of Red Bull machinery with the second fastest time in his Scuderia Toro Rosso, with his fastest lap being set on slick tires.

David Coulthard was third fastest for Red Bull Racing, ahead of Renault test driver Romain Grosjean whose Renault was shod on grooved tires. Grosjean was quickest than Felipe Massa of the Scuderia Ferrari.

The Ferrari F2008 ran with a shark fin engine cover in the late afternoon.
