F1: Launch of the new Renault-powered Red Bull RB5

2-9-2009

by René Fagnan , Auto123.com

The Adrian Newey-designed Red Bull Racing RB5 Formula 1 car was launched on Monday in Jerez, Spain.

Newcomer, German Sebastian Vettel and veteran Australian Mark Webber will drive the V-8 Renault-powered RB5s this season.

The car features a totally new aero package, featuring a sleek bodywork, larger front wings with moveable flaps, and a taller, narrower rear wing.

The engine is fitted with a KERS, the Kinetic Energy Recovery System that stores the energy dissipated by the brakes under braking to recharge batteries that serve to run an electrical motor.

The car is shod on Bridgestone slick tires instead of grooved rubber, as it was the case last year.
