F1: Robert Kubica not BMW's No 1 now - Theissen

Formula 1 team BMW-Sauber boss Mario Theissen says there will be change of strategy following Robert Kubica's debut win in Canada last Sunday.

Kubica, the 23-year-old Pole, leapt to the top of the drivers' championship after Montreal, leading him to hint that he might be nominated the team's number-one driver for the balance of the season.

"We are leading the drivers' championship, so I hope the team will give me 100 per cent support to try to maybe defend it until the last race," Kubica said at Montreal.

But Theissen has now played down suggestions that Nick Heidfeld could be relegated to a supporting role.

"We will continue as we were," he told the BMW team website.

"We will not change our strategy for the coming races. Both drivers will be given exactly the same cars, and exactly the same devotion from the team."

Theissen implied that favourable race strategies will be devised after each race's qualifying session. Kubica has sat higher on the grid than Heidfeld for the entire 2008 season so far.

"We will take a calm look at their qualifying results before deciding the race strategy," he added.

Kubica began his second consecutive day of testing at Barcelona on Friday.

Heidfeld will complete the three-day test for the Hinwil based team on Saturday.
