Glorious Goodwood

9-21-2005

by Flagworld

"It was truly a great weekend for legends of motorsport who were wall-to-wall!"

Jardine indulged in a few grassy moments as he flung Rae Davis' Mini around the classic Sussex airfield track.

In the celebrity race on Saturday he finished seventh, just behind Alan Jones' Ford Falcon, and ahead of Tiff Needell and Derek Bell in Lotus Cortinas.

Controversial as always, Jardine passed Needell on the penultimate lap going into the chicane - under a stationary yellow flag that he'd not seen in his blind spot on the outside of the bend.

"As I dived past Tiff into the chicane I saw the waved yellow for Vitantonio Liuzzi's Plymouth Barracuda which had stopped on the left, then I realised my mistake.

"However, the stewards accepted that the stationary flag was in my blind spot so they let my seventh position stand," said a repentant Jardine.
