GP2: Nico Hülkenberg powers to first (and second) victory

From GP2 Series

Nico Hülkenberg has taken his first and second victory in the main series with a dominant performance at his home circuit of Nurburgring this week-end.

Hülkenberg finished 14 seconds ahead of his closest rivals Roldan Rodriguez and Andreas Zuber in Saturday's race 1 and easily won ahead of Alvaro Parente and Kamui Kobayashi in Sunday's race 2.

Romain Grosjean (5 places), Pastor Maldonado (5 places) and Alberto Valerio (3 places) were handed down grid position penalties for race 2 as a result of infractions during race 1.

Sunday morning, Nico Hülkenberg became the second man to build a perfect weekend by winning in wet conditions at the Nurburgring.

The German was the first driver since Nelson Piquet in 2006 to claim all 20 points on offer over a race weekend, and took the lead in the driver's championship for good measure.

With open warfare all around the track Hülkenberg sailed serenely on, strolling across the line 26.4 seconds ahead of Parente, who eventually subdued Kobayashi to claim his first podium of the season, while Petrov recovered from a spin to finish 0.1 seconds behind the Japanese driver.

Behind them Grosjean eventually hauled his way up to fifth place ahead of Villa and d'Ambrosio to scrap a few points out a disappointing weekend for the Frenchman, who lost his championship lead to Hülkenberg on 46 points but managed to cling on to second ahead of his teammate by a point, 42 points to 41.
