Hyundai announces name for future upper-sized crossover SUV

8-11-2006

The midsized Hyundai Veracruz is the ninth vehicle to join the company's 2007 model lineup and carries forward the Korean automakers propensity for vehicle place-names- this one borrowed from a beautiful Mexican state.

A uniquely styled machine, Veracruz is larger than a Honda Pilot, and will pack more cargo volume that the full sized Mercedes GL, while provide a car-like ride with premium features.

Hyundai's Hideaway third row seat is also on the standard equipment list. It consists of an intelligent 50/50 split seat which can be folded easily into the floor and helps provide flexible seating for seven.

Power from a 3.8 litre V6 engine is delivered to all four wheels (optionally) via a 6-speed automatic transmission. As a package, Hyundai's upcoming crossover is intended to be a fantastic combination of styling, safety, comfort and convenience. Standard safety hardware includes Electronic Stability Control, side airbags and side curtains for all three rows of passengers.

Veracruz will compete primarily with the Honda Pilot and Lexus RX 350, as well as more uniquely named models including the Nissan Murano (named after an island in Venice) and the Subaru B9 Tribeca, (whose name is still shrouded in mystery.)

Hyundai's typical approach of building a vehicle of comparable quality to its competitors at a price advantage is sure to find the hot new Veracruz a place in the ever tougher crossover market.
