NASCAR competitors to tackle Watkins Glen road course

8-7-2008

by Éric Descarries

This weekend will be another busy one for NASCAR fans as its two major series, the Nationwide and the Sprint Cup will be running the world famous Watkins Glen road course. The weather forecast looks better than the one in Montreal last week but NASCAR would be ready for rain in case it happened, mostly for the Nationwide series.

Consequently, at least two Canadians will run the Nationwide Zippo 200 on Saturday afternoon, Patrick Carpentier (Dodge No 9) and D.J. Kennington (Dodge No 81). As for Andrew Ranger, he will not be at the wheel of the No 22 Dodge as the team opted for Sprint Cup driver Ryan Newman.

Reigning champion Jimmie Johnson (Chevy No 48) will also be in the race. This event will be shown live on ESPN and RDS (French) and later in the evening on TSN. And, in the Sprint Cup series run on Sunday afternoon, Patrick Carpentier will be back in the No 10 Dodge while Canadian Ron Fellows will drive the DEI No 01 Chevrolet at the Sprint Cup Centurion Boats at the Glen race on Sunday afternoon. The Cup race will be televised live on ABC and in the evening on RDS (French).

Craftsman Truck drivers will be racing the Toyota Tundra 200 at the Nashville Speedway on Saturday evening (on SPEED Channel) while the Canadian Tire drivers will run the Full Throttle Energy Drink 200 at the Mosport Speedway half-mile oval also on Saturday evening.
