NASCAR: Qualifying rained out at Watkins Glen, Carpentier to start 39th

8-8-2008

by Éric Descarries

This is the fourth time out of the last five NASCAR Sprint Cup last races held at the Watkins Glen road course in Northern New York that qualifying has been rained out.

Consequently, Sunday's race will start according to NASCAR's rules that include team owner's points to establish the starting grid.

Kyle Busch (Camry No 18) will be first in the line-up (there is no so-called Pole Position per se) with Dale Earnhardt Jr (Chevy No 88) by his side. Carl Edwards (Ford No 99) will start third.

As for Canadian Patrick Carpentier (Dodge No 10), he will start from the 39th position.

Only two drivers did not make it but one of them, Boris Said, will substitute for Kyle Petty in the No 45 Dodge though Petty once won this event.
