Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango Hybrid Prototype Quick Drive

6-22-2007

by Matt St-Pierre , Auto123.com

All of this translates into estimated efficiency gains in the region of 25% in highway driving and up to 40% in urban cruising. To help achieve these impressive numbers, the Aspen and Durango hybrid can run on full-electric mode up to about 25 mph (40 km/h), and when reverse is selected, the electric motor works on its own. If the gas engine was to turn on while reversing, it would only do so to recharge the batteries. Also part of the hybrid recipe are the auto start and stop sequences of the HEMI and regenerative braking.

The HEMI hybrid makes tons of sense: the big trucks use huge quantities of energy and in many cases, consumers do require their abilities. The Hybrid gives them the best of both worlds.

Frank Klegon made some great announcements about diesel at the CPG. My only question is when will the turbodiesel 3.0L V6 make its way into the Aspen and Durango?
