The return to the
Formula 1 calendar of the Grand Prix of Canada in 2010 is still
not assured, politicians in Montreal insist.
On Monday, the
Circuit Gilles Villeneuve's outgoing local promoter Normand Legault said in a media statement that a "commercial dispute" with
Bernie Ecclestone is now over and that an "announcement is forthcoming" about Canada's return to F1.
But the Quebec finance minister Raymond Bachand responded by insisting that Legault's statement was not an official announcement about the 2010 Canadian grand prix.
"Our negotiations with Ecclestone are going well, the negotiations are actually over, but we haven't signed anything yet but we're very confident," he is quoted as saying by Canadian media.
Montreal mayor Gérald Tremblay also said he hoped to have more news on the subject soon.
