2004 Mazda Tribute ES AWD Road Test

12-11-2003

I also liked the fact that when I parked the car and took the key out, the cabin lights went on automatically. I didn't even have to open the door. This made gathering things before going inside the house so much easier, especially when it was night time. Normally I would have to turn the lights on manually if I was looking for something, but not with the Tribute.

Speaking of gathering, the center console stores an amazing amount of odds and ends. It's also at a really comfortable height to rest my elbow on. The cupholders were at convenient positions too, and were big enough to hold one-liter bottles of water. It's these little things that really made the Tribute stand out in my mind.

I was impressed by the long list of standard features the Tribute ES model offers. (Photo: Alexandra Straub, Canadian Auto Press)
On that note I was impressed by the list of standard features the ES model offers, including 16-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, a rear flip-up window with solar tint, fog lights, electric sliding glass sunroof, air conditioning, power door locks, remote keyless entry with illumination, power windows with express 1-touch feature, tinted rear windows, cruise control, heated front seats, leather seating, driver and passenger door bins, and front and side air bags. These are only a few standard features out of many offered on the Tribute ES.

In the end I only have a few small complaints. One, the seat warmer button is in an inconvenient spot on the side of the front seats, making it at first difficult to find and then hard to reach. For the driver, it is placed right beside the 6-way power adjustable seat, so I sometimes mistakenly adjusted my seating position in turn for bum warming!
