This 2005 Magnum RT AWD has a base price of $40,260, or $2,665 more then the rear-wheel drive RT. It also included the $935 Convenience Group II, the $765 Electronic Convenience Group, a $455 6-CD stereo with MP3 playback, and a $1,050 power glass sunroof. The total price climbs to $43,465, and for that price, I'd gladly skip all-wheel-drive and move up to the new 425-hp $46,050 Magnum SRT-8 instead. Or, the other way around, you can order an SXT AWD for $34,805 (or $3,310 more than the RWD SXT). You would still get much of the same features as the RT AWD, such as 18-inch wheels, 5-speed automatic with AutoStick, power driver's seat, as well as upgraded brake and suspension setups. You might regret not getting that HEMI, though...

Expect the base prices for 2006 to climb by about $600.

As for the '72 Monaco my parents had, it just comes to show how family transportation has changed over the years. This new Dodge doesn't seek the same buying public as the old Monaco, but it can haul the kids and related accessories just as well. If you're smitten by the Magnum's looks or practicality, or both, it's well worth considering when your next car purchase comes around. Or, if you don't like SUVs, the Magnum is a great alternative.

What I liked:
Raging HEMI engine, of course
Space to spare
Practicality a wagon provides

What I didn't like:
No indication when MDS is active
Seats lack lateral support, slippery with leather
Learning to use the information centre made me forget how to
   program the VCR
