2007 Honda S2000 Road Test

10-30-2007

by Mark Hacking , Auto123.com

Given that the Honda S2000 has changed so little over the past eight years, it could be argued that it's time for a change. South of the border, Honda is about to release the 2008 Honda S2000 CR (Club Racer) to the buying public. This race-ready model features a revised body kit with a cowl fairing behind the seats, a large rear spoiler, stiffer suspension and an aluminum hard top.

For 2008, Honda offers the track tuned S2000 CR. The two letters stand for Club Racer.

The S2000 CR is clearly an effort to remind customers of the great qualities of this little roadster. But with such stylish competitors as the Mazda MX-5, Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice on the market, it may not be enough.

Picture this: A completely redesigned and modern Honda S2000 built on the exact same chassis. The same power (or maybe a little bit more). A revised and more user-friendly interior. Maybe even a foldable hardtop roof. Now, that's the Honda S2000 that this world needs.

Until then, we have the 2007 Honda S2000 at a starting price of $50,600 - still a massive amount of bang for the buck.

Great power
Incredible balance and handling
The best manual transmission in the business
Enormous fun to drive

Slightly outdated styling
The competition (MX-5, Solstice, Sky) has gained ground

Interior ergonomics
Plain black interior treatment
