2007 Mercedes-Benz E320 Bluetec: First Impressions

9-8-2006

by Matt St-Pierre , Auto123.com

The future holds more Bluetec as Mercedes-Benz has plans for an S and a CLS with this technology. Furthermore, the company is working hard

towards developing a hybrid-electric version of Bluetec which could essentially nearly eliminate emissions all the while reducing fuel consumption and maintaining as staggering amount of performance. As some of you may know, DCX will share the powertrain with other products including the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Commander. Here is some food for thought: If 1/3 of all light-duty vehicles sold in the USA were diesel-powered, they would be saving the equivalent of 1.4 million barrels of fuel per day. This amount equates to the number of barrels of crude oil that are imported every day from Saudi Arabia.

Seventy years have passed since the first diesel passenger car, the Mercedes 260D, was created. It is only logical then that this same car maker be a leader in this technology. Bluetec promises to be a guiding light in a world looking for clean efficient modes of transportation.

The base US price for the 2007 E320 Bluetec is of $51,550. In Canada, the base price is of $67,800.
