The exterior styling of the R8 is truly unique. |
Competition
The base price of the 2008 Audi R8 is $139,000. Adding the R tronic transmission will raise the bill to $150,500. You can also select various options and packages amounting to nearly $20,000 (navigation system, premium audio, additional leather and alcantara trim pieces, etc.).
Based on prices and performance levels, the Audi R8 is set to compete with the 480-hp Porsche 911 Turbo ($158,300), the 500-hp BMW M6 ($128,300), the 420-hp Jaguar XKR ($117,000), the 518-hp Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG ($158,000) and finally the 380-hp Aston Martin V8 Vantage ($188,000).
Compared with such devilish cars as the Lamborghini Gallardo and the Ferrari F430, the R8 will attract about the same amount of attention at a fraction of the cost.
Wrap-up
It's pretty hard to make a case against the new R8 -- fast, comfortable and, above all, drop dead gorgeous. This Audi is definitely not cheap, but the price remains reasonable given the exceptional value and quality of the product.
