2008 Audi TT 3.2 quattro Roadster Road Test

1-17-2008

by Rob Rothwell , Auto123.com

Output from the 3.2 litre V6 is accompanied by a deep exhaust note that only gets better as the throttle sinks further to the floor, forcing the S tronic to quickly insert larger cogs with instant proficiency. This dynamic drivetrain is extremely satisfying whether administering it's own shifting or deferring the delightful task to the driver.

Ride and handling
The TT Roadster 3.2 quattro imparts a sense of precision that one might associate with a scientific instrument. Simply put: it goes precisely where it's pointed, and with a razor sharpness that's urgent and immediate. Handling dynamics are very neutral. Forcing the German roadster into a highspeed corner can be done with confidence and very little fear that it'll bite back.

The TT is agile and can make your heartbeat go really fast.

The car demonstrates tenacious road holding ability and very predictable handling characteristics without sacrificing ride quality, which is remarkably good when the magnetic ride adjustment is in the "normal" setting. Braking is also a strong attribute of the TT. Nosedive is essentially non-existent when the binders clamp firmly. Even under the most arduous of braking exercises, the TT Roadster simply came to an instant halt without hysterics or fanfare.

Wrapping up a TT Roadster
The TT Roaster 3.2 quattro is equipped with front and side airbags and an electronic vehicle stabilization program as standard safety equipment. And so it should be given its entry price of $63,900 Canadian. My tester benefited from a number of selections on the option page, which spiked its MSRP to $73,450; and there was more to go if one so chose.

Still, when you compare the TT 3.2 Roadster to selections such as the Porsche Boxster or BMW Z4, pricing doesn't seem so out of line. This is a tremendously rousing sports car to drive, whether as a daily commuter or a sunny day special treat.
