2008 Volkswagen GTI Review

11-7-2008

by Marc Bouchard , Auto123.com

Elevating the VW GTI above the rest is an unparalleled balance between ride and handling. Sure, there's some body roll in sharp turns due to the slightly softer suspension settings (compared to previous generations), but you barely feel it.

The long side bolsters do a great job of wrapping your entire backside and holding it in check for a true sporty feel.

When styling matters
On the outside, my tester stood out with unique wheels and 18-inch tires. Clever upgrades to the design of the base Rabbit, including the sloping front fascia, also allow the GTI to shine on the road. I can't tell you how many drivers rolled down their windows to let me know how much they loved the car's flair and bold personality.

Judiciously powered and unpretentiously attractive, the 2008 Volkswagen GTI is a blast to drive. Displaying great balance and efficiency, it delivers genuine thrills behind the wheel -- in typical German fashion -- while offering a unique friendly feel every day of the week.

Now that's the best of both worlds.
