2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon First Impressions

If the 2010 CTS Sport Wagon cuts a fine figure with its great style and engineering, the base pricse is another story entirely.

The basic model starts at $44,325 and the four-wheel-drive version at $46,950. But at the time of writing, the two-wheel-drive Volvo V70 boasted a base price of $42,495 and the Audi A4 Avant Quattro one of $42,700! Price differences that could be enough to discourage buyers interested in this type of vehicle.

Not the first
The CTS is not the first wagon that Cadillac has mass-produced. In September 2007 GM unveiled the BLS wagon at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The Saab 9-3 SportCombi clone was never as successful as expected on the European market for which it was developed. It was naturally never imported here, American consumers not being particularly enamoured with this kind of ride.

Until now, at least, because things are changing over at GM. During our brief stay in the U.S. (barely 24 hours), Cadillac reps confirmed that a compact sedan similar to the Acura CSX would soon appear on the North American market. Cadillac’s U.S. director of communications was quick to add that it wouldn’t be another Cimarron, that crude adaptation of the Chevrolet Cavalier built in the 1980s!

To be continued…
