Interestingly, I recorded no major difference between having Insight’s gas-saving ECO mode engaged or disengaged—though many dozens of factors could affect these results. Overall, my average mileage clocked in around 5.7 L / 100km-- leaving room for improvement compared to the 4.7 L / 100km figure Honda advertises.
Ultimately, conditions during my test were far from ideal. The tester had barely covered 1,100 km of driving, and the week was a peculiarly windy one.

You might still find that mileage fantastic. In my Northern Ontario locale, it took 2 days of errands before the fuel gauge moved from empty, and a $14 fill-up replaced several days worth of gas.
Proud owners will be taking to the internet to post their fuel consumption figures in the near future-- so consult with them if mileage maximization is your sole reason for owning an Insight.
Of course, if you’re just after a fuel-efficient and upscale small car, you’ll probably like it too.
