These systems are only the tip of the iceberg. The new E-Class sedan's
impressive safety arsenal also includes, among other features,
next-generation Pre-Safe technology and braking assist.
Feeling drowsy? No problem!
Go get your popcorn because we're far from finished yet. The 2010 E-Class also boasts Attention Assist, which keeps track of steering angle and warns the driver if they're getting drowsy. Basically, the system records your first 20 minutes of driving to assess your profile. Then, it compares all your moves to said profile and, when a notable change is detected, an audible alert and a coffee-cup icon on the dash will remind you to wake up.

Meanwhile, in order to make nighttime driving easier, the car uses adaptive headlights which not only swivel in corners but also adapt to surrounding lights. High beams automatically dim as soon as the system detects incoming headlights and taillights.
Moreover, Night View Assist Plus employs infrared technology to allow you to see the road almost like in broad daylight. It teams up with a segment-exclusive pedestrian detection function. However, unlike the S-Class, which puts the display right in front of the driver, the E-Class' is integrated to the center screen, forcing you to take your eyes away from the road.
And how could I not mention Lane Keeping Assist? When the system recognizes that the car is drifting from its lane, the driver is prompted to take counter-steering action by brief vibrations of the steering wheel. The whole thing is quite subtle but positively helpful.
Unfortunately, Canadians won't be able to enjoy the new, optionally available Speed Limit Assist, which uses a windscreen camera to recognize speed limit signs as the car passes them and then displays the relevant speed limit on the speedometer. That's because the signs over here are not shaped like Germany's.
