Second surprise? The adjustable suspension. In all modes and over most any surface, it maintains a well-damped and solid ride feel that isolates the cabin nicely from unwanted imperfections in the road. Dialing up the suspension sportiness merely tightens up the connection between the CLS’s body and wheels, rather than transferring every imperfection in the road back to the driver. It’s isolated nicely, maintains a Mercedes-quality ride at virtually all times, and feels very finely tuned.

Coming soon-ish
Want one? The CLS63 AMG will start rip-snorting out of Canadian dealer lots halfway through this year. The AMG-shod unit will cap the sleek range of ‘four-door coupes’ as its ultimate, fire-breathing performance model-- though a more modest CLS 550 will also be available if you’re nearly out of demerit points.
