With classic styling and good build quality, the 2013 Chinorex Chase 50 will likely attract its fair share of city dwellers.
Chironex Canada has its vehicles built to the requirements of China's Taizhou Zhonyneng Motorcycle Co., Ltd. There's a sizable network of dealers across the country including 19 in Quebec. The 2013 Chinorex Chase 50 is the company's entry-level scooter.
Storage
Riders can store a half-helmet under the seat, although I would recommend adding a trunk over the rear cargo rack to maximize convenience. Additionally, a cargo hook can be found on the front panel.
Ergonomics
Offering both a centre stand and a side stand, the 2013 Chinorex Chase 50 proves easy to park at just 82 kilograms. The handy grab rail near the seat helps, too. Speaking of which, the seat is comfortable and allows a decent riding position. However, the tight floorboard won't be kind to those with large feet.
The instrument panel includes nothing more than the basics, while the friendly controls disappoint with their plasticky feel.
On the plus side, the 2013 Chinorex Chase 50 features generously sized mirrors that don't vibrate on the road, even at idle. They're also easy to adjust. And with the folding footpegs, you can invite a friend for a ride. Just don't expect the same level of performance, however.

Power
The 49.5cc single-cylinder engine of the 2013 Chinorex Chase 50 comes with an electric starter and a kick starter. You can feel some vibrations through the seat at idle, but nothing to cry about.
That four-stroke powerplant may not be electrifying, but it does allow good, unhesitating takeoffs. There's enough juice to reach, and maintain, a speed of 50 km/h without breaking a sweat.
The front disc brake and rear drum brake deliver safe, confident stops. Personally, though, the rear brake lever required too much effort; you may have to adjust it.
Riding experience
The 2013 Chinorex Chase 50 shows great balance on the road. The nicely calibrated suspension finds a good middle ground between handling and ride quality.
At $2,199, this little scooter will happily serve beginners and all those with short daily commutes.
Big thanks to David Tétreault at Zone Moto and Tony Kanjirappally at Chironex Canada for giving us the opportunity to test ride the Chase 50 on a bleak autumn day.
