The maximum QST amount that can be refunded increases from $1,000 to $2,000!
Last February 20, the Quebec Liberal Party (which makes up the outgoing government) unveiled its last budget before the elections, to be held on March 26. Even though Greenpeace was disappointed overall by the announcements, one of the measures put forward might actually have an impact of the increase of hybrid vehicle sales in Quebec.

Indeed, apart from the $1.2-billion Green Plan of the Charest administration to fight global warming, the latest budget includes an incentive that increases from $1,000 to $2,000 the maximum QST amount that can be refunded. It applies to any sale and long-term lease of new hybrid vehicles that were made after the lecture of the budget but before January 1, 2009. Greenpeace applauded the decision.
However, it's possible the government could have done more by extending the incentive to some non-hybrid yet fuel-efficient vehicles, like the smart fortwo. After all, this car burns even less fuel than many hybrid vehicles, especially hybrid SUVs. Maybe next time!
