Detroit Autoshow 2010: Cadillac CTS-V Coupe

1-12-2010

by Marc Bouchard , Auto123.com

At Cadillac, art and science go hand in hand. And that’s exactly what the new CTS-V Coupe serves up, making its world debut at the 2010 NAIAS in Detroit.

2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe

The new sport coupe looks astonishingly like the CTS Coupe with its aggressive lines, but features the 556-hp V8 and chain mail grill of the CTS-V.

Powerful and sophisticated, Cadillac’s V family (V for Velocity) stands out thanks to explosive performance that sacrifices neither comfort nor handling. Note, however, that the new CTS-V Coupe is built on a new layout, a wider rear track ensuring improved stability compared to the sedan.

Visually, it remains true to the coupe philosophy, relinquishing the B pillar in favour of a more aerodynamic profile. Available in the third quarter of 2010, this 2+2 will accommodate four people.

Cadillac XTS Concept in relief of DTS/STS
The latest take on Cadillac’s new Art & Science design philosophy is called XTS Platinum, a concept which likely foreshadows the future premium full-size sedans of this General Motors division.

Aesthetically, the XTS carries over the traditional lines of recent Cadillacs, combining modern flair with aggressive character. However, it integrates new proportions and aerodynamics like we’ve never seen in the brand’s design language.

The cabin is particularly refined and living up to other Platinum models already available, like in the Escalade lineup, with rich leather seating, premium wood trim as well as unique fit and finish enhancing the interior atmosphere.

From a mechanical standpoint, the XTS Concept uses an unprecedented recipe consisting of all-wheel drive, GM’s familiar 3.6-litre V6 and a plug-in hybrid system capable of running in fully electric mode to double the mileage of this big, 350-horsepower machine.

As for electronics, Cadillac fitted its latest navigation system, as seen in the all-new SRX. The entire display and console is blacked out and seemingly invisible until you fire up the engine and the instruments spring to life.

Officially, no production date has been announced yet. However, both the DTS and STS sedans are expected to bow out and find a common replacement soon.
