Kamui Kobayashi will race for the Sauber team in formula one next year, the Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat reports.
The Japanese rookie impressed during his two-race stint at the end of the 2009 season, and would have secured a full seat at Toyota had the carmaker not pulled out of the sport.
Turun Sanomat said confirmation of 23-year-old Kobayashi's contract will not be forthcoming until his teammate has also been signed.
It is believed the reigning Renault World Series champion Bertrand Baguette will be the Hinwil based team's reserve driver in 2010.
The Belgian's manager Manfredi Ravetto is quoted as predicting a raft of mid-season driver changes next year, leaving reserve drivers in prime position to capitalise.
