And the costs of today's hybrids aren't making much -- if any -- progress in terms of recovering the billions of dollars spent to research and develop their hybrid engines.

That won't happen until a lot more people buy more hybrids, which is why second and third biggest car companies in the world (Toyota and Ford) have decided to thump separate tubs to promote the future of hybrids.

Buy a hybrid if you want, but don't expect it to save you any money. If you do buy a hybrid and find this truth out for yourself after-the-fact, don't say you weren't warned.
