Jose Maria Lopez: I don't feel right

7-31-2006

by Flagworld

GP2 Series: Towards the end he was pulling in maybe 0.3, and then the next lap you'd pull that out again. Despite all the problems with turning right, the car looked very good for you today... and all weekend in fact.
Jose:
The car was great in the first laps. The only thing was the last few laps. I thought I was managing the gap and then I saw that I was pulling away easily from him. Somehow in the last laps I think I tried so hard that I lost a bit of front rubber. Perhaps he managed to keep his tyres a bit better.

It's never a happy thing to lose the race in the last lap.

GP2 Series: As you say, the car had trouble turning right, and it seemed like it was turn one that you lost the advantage to Timo on that final lap.
Jose:
Yeah. It was all the right turns, more in the quick ones. For sure he was catching me in the first sector quite a lot and then I was holding him and pulling away in the second sector, but he was catching me again in the stadium because of the two rights. That was the problem I think. If we can solve that we can be pretty string from here.

GP2 Series: Finally a quick word about the team. After qualifying, and during qualifying, they did an amazing job rebuilding your car and then the fantastic job that you and they did together as a team to come from dead last to seventh yesterday and a second place today. It's an amazing result.
Jose:
Yeah, absolutely. That's why I shouldn't feel so bad about the second place today.
