Motorists have an easier time than ever keeping entertained, informed and in touch while behind the wheel. Now, thanks to the folks at XM, drivers will soon be able to check on real-time weather forecasts while on the run, via a personalized weather tracking service.

The satellite radio company's new WX Satellite Weather system allows viewing of live weather conditions and multi-day forecasts right from their vehicle's navigation display. Exclusive Threat-Matrix technology delivers immediate alerts on impending climatic nastiness such as tornadoes, hail and thunderstorms in the driver's vicinity.

"XM is debuting the first service that alerts consumers to real-time weather threats on the road ahead, a major breakthrough in providing consumers with comprehensive, personalized weather information," said Steve Cook, executive vice president of Automotive at XM. "XM is also sending live data, including traffic, sports, stocks, and other dynamic information, directly to the vehicle accounting for the rapid adoption of the XM platform by OEM partners. Drivers will soon find these services are impossible to live without."

The service will be available early next month on portable devices, and XM is expected to announce its first OEM partners in the near future. Like the company's XM Traffic service, it's likely not headed to Canada immediately.
