Rear drive and 300+ horsepower for Hyundai Genesis Concept

Hyundai unveiled an exciting new sports coupe concept at the Los Angeles autoshow this past week. It's called the Genesis, and it's an all-new, rear-drive 2+2 sports coupe that's scheduled for production in next spring.

The Genesis coupe follows on the heels of the Genesis sedan concept, and indicates Hyundai's desire to appeal to driving enthusiasts. Some may remember rumors of a rear-drive platform in past years to replace the front-drive Tiburon.

Sources say that that the thrilling Genesis has strong potential to be the most affordable "300 plus" horsepower car on the market, with power coming from a tuned-up version of the Korean automakers 3.8 litre V6.

"Concept Genesis Coupe is the most thrilling, most emotional Hyundai yet," said John Krafcik, vice president of product development and strategic planning at Hyundai. "When it hits the market in early 2009, we aim to deliver a driving experience that challenges cars like Infiniti G37, at prices more like Mitsubishi Eclipse."

Looks like they've got their performance figures on track to meet that goal too- with early specifications indicating 0-60 mph in under six seconds, Brembo brakes and a six-speed manual with limited-slip differential installed.
