Two new Z4 models coming this spring

12-15-2008

by Auto123.com

After ending Z4 roadster production this past summer, BMW has announced the availability of two all-new Z4 models this springtime.

Available for power will be a pair of 3.0 liter straight-six engines. The first generates 255 horses and 220 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,600 rpm and is naturally aspirated. This one's called the Z4 sDrive30i. Opting for the Z4 sDrive35i puts BMW's lusty twin-turbo straight six to work- delivering 300 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft of torque.

Both Z4 models come standard with a 6-speed manual transmission, while a seven-speed Double Clutch Transmission (DCT) is available as an option on the BMW Z4 sDrive35i. A regular six-speed automatic comprises the optional gearbox in the sDrive30i model.

Standard Dynamic Drive Control enables drivers to set the car up in three progressively sportier stages, depending on their mood and intentions. With a simple button press, the Z4's steering, transmission, throttle and even suspension can be altered for optimized performance.

Styling looks more grown up, and we see hints of the larger M6 Cabriolet present in some of the 2009 Z4's lines. BMW promises generous cargo room and a bright, exclusive looking cabin.

No word yet if they'll stick the M3 V8 engine into this platform to create the next "M" roadster.
