This is where the Jeep starts to get pushy in the school playground. Let's face it: the 5.7-litre V8 in this truck is quite a challenge for GM's 5.3 and Ford's 4.6. Toyota's 4.7-litre V8 is just not powerful enough. Nissan's 5.6-litre V8 might be a threat for the HEMI, but it still doesn't benefit from any marketing hype and a glorious past. And since Jeep is now a household name, people will buy the Grand Cherokee by default, because it has the credentials to be a good purchase.

So, is this Jeep the object of your desire? If the HEMI engine would be available in the lower-level Laredo model, which would mean a price of about $41,000, it would have a better chance of being the object of mine.

What I like:
The HEMI engine, of course
Off-road capabilities
High level of equipment

What I don't like:
High-priced vehicle category
Horrendous fuel consumption
Disappointing interior
